Parent & Family Engagement Policy
All schools receiving Title I funds are required under Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to develop a written Parent and Family Engagement Policy. This policy, developed jointly with parents, describes how the school will carry out meaningful parent and family engagement.
General
Parents and family members are involved in the development of the school parent and family engagement policy. At Timpanogos Elementary, we involve our stakeholders by holding engaging parent nights that help support learning in the home, communicating through newsletters and bulletins, and sending out pertinent information via ParentLink. Parents are involved in the School Community Council, where plans are centered around the greatest academic needs. We have an ongoing parent committee helping us create a vision and plan of action for our school as we overcome the barriers to Timpanogos students’ success.
Policy Involvement
Annual Meeting
An annual meeting is held each year. At this meeting, information is shared with stakeholders that consists of an explanation of Title I, how funds are allocated, student performance in literacy and math, intervention and enrichment opportunities for students, and ways that stakeholders communicate with the school. You may find our annual meeting information on our website.
Flexible Meetings
We offer flexible meeting times for parents and families to participate in decisions regarding their children. We offer meetings on the 3rd Monday of every month at 8:30 a.m., three annual Parent-Teacher Conferences, where parents may sign up online or with the secretaries for a time that is convenient for the family. They can also attend our monthly School Community Council meetings, held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 3:15 p.m.
Involve Parents
Parents have been involved in the creation of this policy by using data from our stakeholder survey, completing surveys, and attending multiple meetings throughout the year with the PTA and School Community Council.
Shared Responsibility – High Student Academic Achievement
The Timpanogos School Parent Family Compact outlines shared responsibilities for high student academic achievement and is developed jointly with parents, teachers, administrators, and students. Please see our school’s compact on our website.
Building Capacity For Involvement
To ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school, parents, and the community to improve academic achievement, Timpanogos Elementary will:
- Share with stakeholders, at least three times a year, Utah Core Standards, state and local assessment information, and ways parents can monitor their students’ academic success. At Timpanogos Elementary, we share this information through standards reports at the end of each term or during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Other assessment results will be provided by mail, email, or at a Parent-Teacher Conference.
- Provide materials and/or training for parents to work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy support and using technology. At Timpanogos Elementary, we do this by hosting engaging parent nights and in-school activities, such as helping parents with reading strategies, basic math skills, and creating an interest and knowledge of what their children are learning in class.
- Provide professional development for administrators, teachers, and instructional support personnel (with assistance from parents) on the value of parents as equal partners and building ties between parents and the school. At Timpanogos Elementary, we do this by working closely with parents as they express what they hope and desire for their child’s education. This is done in PTA meetings, through Q&A sessions with the principal, and in School Community Council meetings.
- Coordinate parent engagement programs and activities with other federal, state, and local programs that encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children. At Timpanogos Elementary, we do this by meeting each Thursday to discuss specific student needs with our team, which includes the parent liaison, social worker, behavior specialists, school psychologist, district attendance liaison, principal, and others. Community resources are brought to the school or advertised through flyers and emails so that parents are aware of available support.
Accessibility
To the extent practicable, Timpanogos Elementary will ensure that information for parents and family members (including parents and family members who have limited English proficiency, parents and family members with disabilities, and parents and family members of migratory children) is provided in a language they can understand. This includes standards reports and essential school information.
This document was developed jointly by a team of parents, teachers, and administrators between June 2024 and September 2024.
