Welcome to Music. We are working toward singing in-tune!
In Kindergarten, we have learned a lot of songs, including songs for the holidays. Most recently, we have sung two songs about turkeys – “Hey, Tommy Turkey” and “Shoo, Turkey.” We have also been learning and reading nursery rhymes in different ways, including “Hickory Dickory Dock,” “Jack and Jill,” and “Jack Be Nimble.” We have listened to some great music, such as “The Moldau” by Bedrich Smetana and “Fossils” from The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. The students have practiced making their own maps for songs that they know. Ask them to show you how this is done!
In First Grade, we have also learned many songs, including holiday songs. Our turkey songs include “Shoo, Turkey,” “Great Big Turkey,” and “Five Silly Turkeys.” For this last one, we practiced adding resonator bells to the song. The First Graders have also listened to “The Moldau” and “Fossils,” and have also practiced making music maps. The students are also getting very good at reading rhythms that include quarter notes and eighth notes.
In both Kindergarten and First Grade, the students have been exploring music centers on certain days. They make a lot of choices about how they spend their time and have been making some great musical discoveries and strengthening their musical understanding. They are also learning a lot about impulse control, respect, sharing, and taking turns. I love watching them grow!
In Sixth Grade Choir, we have been working hard to get ready for our December concerts. They will have two performances in December! The first is Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 6:30 pm at Timpanogos school. This will include the Sixth Grade Choir and Orchestra and the Early Morning Choir and Orchestra. Students should be at the school at 6:00 pm. Choir members should wear Christmas colors. It is important that all choir students attend. Please come and bring your friends.
Our second performance is December 16, 2019 at 12:20 pm at Timpanogos. We will be performing for other classes in the school. The Sixth Grade Band students will participate in this concert also. We are hoping our choir T-shirts will arrive in time to wear at this concert.
